The world’s least powerful Passports

By Visual Capitalist

The world’s least powerful passports are held by countries like Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, and Yemen. These passports offer very limited visa-free access—often fewer than 40 countries—which makes international travel difficult unless you have a specific personal connection to one of these places.

Sri Lanka’s passport also ranks low, granting visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to around 40 countries. While not particularly strong, it does allow travel to a few interesting destinations and sometimes includes visa-free entry to India through special arrangements.

Venezuela’s passport is surprisingly mid-ranked, despite the country’s current instability. It offers more travel options than passports from places like Kuwait or Qatar, which is unexpected given those countries’ wealth. This just goes to show that a country’s economic or political influence doesn’t always correlate with passport strength. Venezuela could become more important in the future, thanks to its large oil reserves.
